the meds he has me on are 1000 mg of Depakote a day. Not the seizure kind, but the kind for mood smoothing and chemical imbalances

I don't think that a change in your diagnosis means a change in meds all the time. It's more of a change for him, for how to view whast is happening to you so he can help better. or it may be because your insurance covers more with one diagnosis than another. There is a lot of over-lap with some of these differential diagnosis.

But I sense a more underlying problem of you not having faith in his work, or at least not knowing what he is thinking. I strongly encourage you to talk with him or her.

You know, depression can be a secondary effect of another mental issue. So go with it. You can get through OCD by behavioral work- your brain actually does change its structure and functioning. But a better mood can help you keep up the new patterns that therapy will teach you!
I only know because my college BF worked for world-renowned OCD and BDD researchers.
Good luck, and hang in there.
Always feel free to ask the Dr. WHY. I could be wrong, of course, but I think you could stand a little boost to get you through while you make your new life for yourself.

I then would first get another opinion by another Dr seems like this one tho I can't DX you from my standpoint only from experience. Yes I was a Nurse and saw alot of things but now having not a mental prob only another disease. Its terrible when the Dr looks at us as tho were only on a piece of paper that are from his notes. If a Dr has never taken any blood levels and then changes your DX but not your meds, ask more questions and pls see another Dr there are so many others and you can even see the lite one day when you who knows might not need these meds at all. I know from first hand experience from given so many meds and finally a Gyn-OB of all Drs when giving me a biopsy for my breast asked me why when your levels are fine are you on this med or that. Feel free to mail me ok if you want me to go into more infor for you, don't want to go on but believe me sometimes you might not really need what he has now given you. Take good care of you and go out and try to do one thing nice for you a day. Hugs to you I do understand.

You don't say what your meds are?

I do know the standard medication for OCD is SSRI antidpressants. Those are:
Celexa, Cipramil, Emocal, Sepram, Seropram,
Lexapro, Cipralex, Esertia, Prozac, Fontex, Seromex, Seronil, Sarafem, Fluctin, Luvox, Faverin,Paxil, Seroxat, Aropax, Deroxat, Paroxat, Zoloft, Lustral and Serlain.

So if you are on one of those, then they are used for OCD treatment. ADD? You may not be on anything for mild ADD.

You can treat both with antidepressants, if that is what he/she has you on. OCD is a personality disorder, it is not treated with meds.
