If it was a mutual break up on amicable grounds and you found that you were better friends then lovers, then yes, I would still want to spend time with that person. However, when you become involved with a new romantic partner they may not be okay with it and if that is the case, I would not spend time with the ex-lover. The ex-lover will understand, believe me.

It depends on how the breakup happens and what the relationship was like.

I'd say I've stayed friends with 70-80% of ex lovers. The rest were jerks, cowards and idiots. Oh, and one Dane.

Seeing each other and remaining friends sounds good in theory, but in practice I have found it to be too awkward. My last boyfriend stayed in touch, called himself my 'third best friend' and I initially thought I'd been wrong to avoid all contact with former boyfriend, but it was just a matter of time before he tried to establish a 'friends with benefits' relationship with me. That wasn't what I had in mind, I had thought I had been upfront about my feelings, but when I set him straight that there were 'no benefits' he pouted for weeks. So...maybe in time (and after a period of seperation) an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend will turn out to be a friend but it's not the norm.

hmmm....I would have to say yes...If the mood feels right...I have learned from the past that as long as I am not in a committed relationship and know for fact that the current relationship with the "lover" is not going anywhere..if I want to see my lover...then yes I will see her. not for because of some motive or hoping that she will want to be with me in a more committed way. It's all about the mood and the feeling. See him if you want to....don't think about..."BUT, WHAT IF, I DON'T KNOW...knock it off. you know you want to see him or else you would not be here asking. good luck to you.

no, it's better not to see him for a while, i know it will hurt. it is going to take some time to heal and to forget..but in my case, he is my colleague, so I see him everyday and it's not therapeutic for me.

Not for awhile. you'll need time to heal and after that you can try being friends.
