My friend's boyfriend beats her. I saw him do it before. Plus she admits it when I ask about her bruises. I've given her numbers to battered women shelters. She even stayed w/ me a few days, but went back to him. She claims she has nowhere else. She was abused as a child & now has a fatal illness as well. She says she hopes he ends up killing her. If I call the cops on him, she may deny all of it out of fear. Or he may harm me & my family when he gets out of jail. Have I already done all I could to help?

is she an adult or a minor? if she is a minor, you can contact the police... if an adult, you can call the cops when you see it happen... as a domestic violence case, they are required to remove the offender in most states. be a friend and encourage her to seek better for herself

Maybe she is telling you these things so you can take the initiative and help her. Abuse is a cycle. You (the victim) know it's wrong when it's happening...but may not have the appropriate survival skills in place to end the cycle. Call an abused woman's shelter and ask them for advice. Take pictures of the bruises. Perhaps seeing them over and over again may help her realize she needs to get out. Suggest therapy.
You are in a tough situation. Have a heart to heart with her and tell her that YOU love and care about her and could not bear to lose her.
