Just try not to wait more than 48 hours between workouts. Your muslces DO need a day to recoup sometimes depending on the intensity of the workout that made them sore. You can always focus on other muslce groups in the meantime. And don't forget to stretch! Take some Ibuprofen too and drink plenty of water.
If you just did an Ironman or a marathon, take at least three days off. Otherwise, no pain no gain!!!

You should always alternate your work-outs- one day do "upper body" and the next do "lower body". So, this should minimize the amount of soreness you feel on the part of the body you are currently working.
Beyond that, if you're feeling sore and you've JUST started working out, then soreness is pretty normal. If you've BEEN working out for some time and are feeling sore, then maybe you overdid it. If that's the case, I would give yourself an extra day or two and then get back to it.
A little soreness is fine and probably wouldn't do any serious harm.

make sure you stretch before and after a workout. you have to hold the stretch for 20 seconds. also, work the muscles you didn't work the previous day. you shouldn't have a problem working out if your sore if you just stretch.

Depending on how sore, its usually 100% safe. BUT you must stretch and warm up - all that good stuff.
Listen to your body, there is a difference from a good hurt and a bad hurt - if you have any experience working out, you can easily tell the difference.

A gentle workout will probably ease the sore muscles.

Do some serious stretching and work out those muscles. It is ok. You won't even feel it once you start exercising. Just remember to stretch before and after exercising.

you should always alternate workouts everyother day...say you work on ur hams one day then work on an upper body section for the next day, then go back to your hamstring workouts the next day, if you feel up to it!...you just need a break...
