I had my top two wisdom teeth taken out on Thursday (4 days ago), and I keep having intermitten numbness on the back on my tongue and the roof of my mouth. Is this normal??? I know you can have numbness with your bottom wisdom teeth removed, because of the nerve in your jaw. But the top?? Help!

This will subside with in a few days post op, if not or it worsens, call your dentist for an evaluation. Finish all antibiotic medications. You may want to do jaw exercises by opening and closing, stretching wider each time, do this several times a day. Some patients need to use hot moist compresses (damp towel in the microwave works well) in the beginning to ease the stiffness and soreness in the jaw area caused by being open for the extractions. We advise patients to start this on the second day post op. Doing the jaw exercises and getting the blood flowing may eliminate the tingling sensation by helping you to regain the full function of your mouth. Hope I've been of some help and good luck with your recovery.

Also remember to continue with the warm salt water rinses, as warm as you can stand it (without burning your self of coarse) this really does ease the soreness of the extraction site.

I have all my wisdom teeth, so I have no help for you in personal experiance but I have heard that it takes a couple of weeks. My husband just had one pulled and it hurt for a couple of weeks. My step father had them all pulled at the same time and it took a month to feel better.

You've got nerves in your top jaw too. Things should start evenning out soon.

Call and have them reassure you. Yes the lower has the mand. block which is a large "nerve" but I have had shots in the upper and odd sensations from nerves.
Have them ease your mind - and make sure you just don't have an infection - or reaction -
