The Amtrak station is co-located with the Greyhound station in downtown New Orleans. There is daily train service in some directions, but not in others. A link follows to the Amtrak page that shows the New Orleans station.

It's near the edge of the Central Business District, upriver and inland from the French Quarter. The Superdome is very close, but not much of anything else besides parking is nearby. It's a fair hike (safe by day, but not advised at night) to either the French Quarter or the Garden District.
