A skunk sprayed under our deck last night. The smell was so strong it woke us up and filled the whole house. Our dogs were extremely agitated. We are trying to "air out" the house and although I feel a little nauseous, the smell seems to be going away. I've never heard that just smelling a skunk's scent is harmful, but I just want to be sure that it isn't harmful to my dogs. (They were not sprayed, but are acting strange.)

I have two Siberian Huskies - and they definately want to go hunt the skunk!

The skunk didn't spray the dogs so the scent is just seeping into the house from outside.

The smell is even more overwhelming to them as it is to you - remember their noses are even more sensitive than yours. Also it meant there was a smelly intruder in their territory, so their prey drive is kicked up. So they are excited, but OK.

The smell is harmless though stinky unless they get hit right in the eyes.

Dogs have a very strong sense of smell......so take what you are smelling, and multiply that times ten..... no wonder they are agitated!!!!! However, it will not harm them...they are probably going to want to track that awful scent......hopefully they won't find themselves a skunk.........my dog goes loopy when she smells that a cat has been in our yard........once the smell goes away a bit more.....they should be okay.

it is not risky to the skunk in any respect, and as quickly as the heady scent pouch is bumped off, the skunk can no longer spray so it won't scent. only bear in concepts skunks are wild animals and must be dealt with with care. the final decision for a puppy skunk is a infant and that i do no longer additionally be attentive to the way you may get on the brink of one to seize it. yet as with every medical inquiries, take this one to a vet. they are able to respond to you extra effectively than any persons can.

since their sense of smell is a lot stronger than ours I know that it bothered them a great deal but as far as I know since one time I had a dog that got sprayed on 3 different occasions by a skunk, it is not harmful except to their pride as the sprayee.

The scent is not harmful although a direct spray to the eyes can cause blindness. The scent will just irritate the sensitive noses.

No its not harmful. I used to have a Husky and he killed a skunk and was so proud of himself when he showed us but that smell on him lasted for sometime but did no harm to him.
No worries, just get rid of the smell for your own sake.

1 bottle hydroporeoxide
Good squirt of dish soap
