make some type of payment arrangement before your bill gets sent to collections. Most hospitals will let you set up a payment plan.

Just make sure to be proactive. If you dont it could mean penalties and late fees.

I had a friend that racked up 17,000 dollars in medical bills because he didnt have health insurance and he talked to them and pays 150.00 per month until the bill is paid off (no intrest either).

Most hospitals will allow payments. Even if you pay $5.00 a month, it will not go to collections. Some hospitals have programs that will cover the expenses if you are going through a hardship and are unable to pay due to low income or illness. Call the billing rep and ask if these are possibilities.

As long as you pay US$10 a month, your name will not be sent to the credit bureau! But you must advise the hospital that you will be paying US$10 (or whatever you can afford to pay the bill) monthly. Any hospital will accept this arrangement...it is the LAW! Good luck!

Contact the hospital and ask to speak to a social worker. Ask them about any charities that are available to help you. If not, set up a payment plan - even $5 or $10 a month, to show you're making an honest effort and it doesn't screw your credit,
