I have found some of the information on this site regarding Kundalini awakenings are not only highly ignorant, but dangerous to the person who is undergoing such an experience.

Lisa S. inquired regarding Kundalini-type symptoms. Unfortunately, not only was the possibility of such an awakening dismissed by some on this site, but she was labeled as a possible schizophrenic.

If you are undergoing a Kundalini awakening, doctors CANNOT help you. This is spiritual event with physical implications. Understading, acceptance and changes in lifestyle are the only solution. A misdiagnosis could be catastrophic, and end in a visit to a psychiatric hospital.

Kundalini has been well-known in Indian spiritual literature for centuries. For more information, please access these sites: http://home.wxs.nl/~brouw724/kundalini.html, as well as www.biologyofkundalini.com. The site owner, Jana Dixon, underwent an awakening several years ago, and is a fountain of knowledge regarding such a phenomenon.

As Kundalini awakenings becomes more widespread (it is increasing) it will eventually be easier to access information and support which is sorely needed by those unexpectedly experiencing her. Kundalini is the feminine aspect or half of God, She is the creatrix of the material world. She forms our physical body, creating us as an embryo and then a fetus after the merging of the egg and sperm. Then she lays dormant only to emerge when we are approaching a time when we can deal with the changes that she will bring. As such, SHE knows what she is doing when she awakens. It is our ego that responds to her power in our body with shock, fear, anguish and resistance. The best way to assist the process is to begin dialogue with her. If a particular symptom is difficult to deal with, ask her to ease off at certain times. She will adjust according to your needs if you ask.

I totally agree!

In my opinion and experience, spiritual awakening is an energetic cellular change that occurs in the body through some of the following ways: spontaneously, breath-work, yogic practises, extreme trauma, near death experiences... among several others.

When this 'awakening' occurs, the human is present to the fact that we are all connected to each other and to 'God' or 'spirit' or 'the life force' through the 'Holy Spirit' or 'Universal Energy'. The concept of God as being separate from us is replaced by the awareness that we all have this energy within us.

Spiritual Awakening energy is often called 'kundalini' - a Sanskrit term which means 'energy of consciousness'. With awakening comes consciousness and awareness of the 'true' nature of this world.

After someone has had such an experience there follows a period of realignment while they must incorporate their new perspective on life into their life. They will probably find old ways of relating to people no longer work for them, or their current job may no longer 'fit' them. This is a period of transition and can be difficult for those who have no language around what happened to them.

For anyone requiring support at this time go to my site http://www.spiritualawakeningcoach.com or http://www.themystica.com/mystica/articles/k/kundalini.html for more information.

Thank-you all so very much for your informative and caring responses. Going through a spiritual transformation is not only terrifying on its own, but horrendous if you cannot seek love and support from your fellow man. I'm glad to be taken seriously here and not dubbed as a psychiatric burden. The months have been quite a struggle (have even turned suicidal on some occasions), but it's winding down now. I am now more spiritual than I've ever been. I don't know if this is due to the ayahuasca, my b/f's own spiritual energy, or what exactly, but the experience has been an overemotional nightmare. I suspect my "awakening" was premature and undisciplined, and I couldn't control my mind positively enough to make the journey more worthwhile. Giving up everything-including myself-wasn't easy, but I hope that, in the end, it will all be worthwhile.

Kundalini awakening is not simple as one may think. I have searched thorugh many articles on this awakening. Many have claimed that the experience is very frightening. I have been following a methaphysics practioner/para psychologist, a sidhar practioner and also a reiki master. All say they can initiate one's kundalini awakening. A person's chakras system must have been attuned. Your body must be in attunement to go thorugh this experience. Otherwise it is said that it could be devasting. It is best that you find a master in such field who is nearest to you to answer regarding this experience. It is spiritual. It is also said it is awakened accidently by itself.

Good information and a very responsible answer. Kundalini is very powerful and really should be practiced with a skilled teacher/mentor. We can awaken Kundalini but usually it is fleeting, particularly in a dynamic yoga practice. I hope she gets this information. Best to you.

The Sri Chakra Mantra is said to be able to balance obstacles in Kundalini awakening.
Here is the mantra:

Om Shrim Shriyei Swaha
"Om and salutations to the feminine force of the universe"
