To me it shows that they are ignorant and lack any form of intelligence. Only people with limited knowledge of the English language have to use such ignorant words to express themselves.

Hi Scott,
to me it means that the person doing the swearing hasn't the education to use words in the correct way.
Often, though, swearing arises from a person being around others who swear, one 'joins in'.
It can, though not always, indicate that a person has been brought up badly and reflects (a poor word, I know) class, or lack of it.
I have sworn (I'm not very good with hammers!) but have always been able to avoid swearing when around children, women or anyone who may be offended by hearing me swear. I generally can get my points across without offence.
It takes some self-control to avoid using offensive wordage when arguing, maybe the people who swear most are people with little self-control or who are too lazy to think of other ways of getting their point across.
Cheers and good luck (I swear!) to you,
BobSapin

Aloha from Down Unda!
It usually confirms that I'm too late to be of any social redeeming value to that person.
Lori S's answer is an A plus in my estimation!
Most answers run along the right lines but anyone using bad language around children should get one in the lip!
Best wishes ~

It doesn't bother me unless I have my daughter with me and then I have no problem censoring other people and asking them to not curse. Otherwise I am also guilty or talking like a sailor most of the time. But on the flip side I know when and where to use that language and when I need to use my more toned down formal speaking. In my opinion its a matter of if the person knows how to control themselves.

I don't like it when people routinely swear. Some people don't seem able to speak one sentence without resorting to foul language. It demonstrates a poor vocabulary, and, depending on the situation, a lack of restraint and bad manners.

I think that when people use that type of language it means one of two things:
(1) They are just trying to look cool, or big and tough
or
(2) They are so emotional about that subject, that they use those words to help get their emotions out and heard

It doesn't say anything to me, I don't care. I don't do it myself in public (although I do at home when something goes wrong :)) but I really couldn't care less what others say, I don't ever give it a second thought when it happens, only when others ask me about it as you do here I think about it.

It says that they don't respect other people enough to speak in a way that would be exceptable to all people men, women&children. You should reserve offinsive words, phrases, amd gestiors for your own home.It also says to me that they dont care about how people view them.

It says that they are not intelligent enought to use proper terminology to express themselves. It also says that they are given to dramatic emotion, rather than allowing the truth to be clearly evident in its presentation.
