I have PCOS and as a result put on a lot of weight (though some people don't, I must be cursed).

I have been on the GI diet for about 3 weeks now and have lost 8lbs through diet and moderate exercise. Buy 'The GI Diet' by Rick Gallop-it's brilliant and so easy to read. You can eat normal food and not spend a bomb on stupid ingredients. I actually eat more now than I used to, so it just goes to show that patterns of eating do have a big impact, not necssarily just what you eat.

I can't give 7 of each, but I'll help!

Breakfasts

1. Porridge with dried fruit/fresh fruit/yoghurt, made with skimmed milk.

2. Wholemeal/granary toast (with Diet Flora if having it) with Omega 3 scrambled eggs.

3. Grapefruit with a Ryvita Goodness Bar (really tasty, and v low calorie-the only bar that doesn't have sugar in, even the Weight Watchers ones have sugar in).

4. 2 slices of bacon (yes, really) on toast (trim the fat)-it has to be back bacon.

5. Fruit salad (cannot have melon, inc watermelon or banana but can have grapes!)

6. Oatibix with skimmed milk.

7. Fruit with yoghurt on top. (Can be natural yoghurt, but I have Muller Light-these have sweetner instead of sugar).

Lunch

1. Chicken breast (grilled) with toasted sesame seeds and a crunchy salad (you can have dressings as long as they are low fat, you can even have mayonnaise as long as it's low fat!)

2. Soup (chunky veg, no potatoes), a piece of wholemeal bread.

3. Sandwich (open faced) such as BLT-perfectly fine.

4. Stir fry (if having a small tea later that day)-wholmeal rice, prawns, peppers, sugarsnap peas, etc-any veg you like.

Dinner

1. Steak (it has to be rib eye, apparently-and can only have it occasionally) with mixed vegetables and new potatoes (can only have new potatoes-this is important).

2. Spaghetti Bolognese-just use wholemeal pasta and extra lean mince.

Snacks

1. Handful of nuts
2. Fruit
3. Yoghurts
4. Crudites
5. Ryvita Goodness bars (or similar, just ensure there's no sugar).

Rick Gallop recommends you have a good breakfast, and that you have a snack (such as the above) between your meals and before you go to bed.

I hope that this helps to relieve your PCOS symptoms. My cycles haven't gone 'back to normal' but it's only 3 weeks!

Good luck.

there is a book on amazon.com that is specifically for a diet for women with pcos.. whatever you do make sure you get on glucophage or similar or else your body will fight against the diet (especially if you have insulin resistance with your PCOS).
