About a year ago i suddenly had a painful cramp in my stomach about 10 mins after eating. It lasted about 30 secs then went, then came back again 10 mins later and went again.
I havent had it since but since then I have had little stabbing pains in my stomach every now and again. About once per week. Is it IBS?
Someone said yes and someone said no.
I dont have any problems passing bowl movements, just the pains and alot of gas!!

I would say no. I have IBS and it effects me daily. I have constipation then diarrhea, terrible gas pains in my chest and back that make me wonder if I am having a heart attack. I take several different prescriptions daily that help, but nothing takes all the pain, and stomach trouble.
I really don't know what might be causing you pain. I could guess different things like maybe gas, something you have eaten, food allergy, acid reflux. There are so many different kinds of stomach problems. I don't think you really have much to worry about, but only a Dr. can give you a correct diagnosis, so I would make a appointment today, That way you will know and won't be worried about it. Just being upset and worried can really mess up your stomach. Good Luck, I hope you get feeling better very soon.

Possibly. The most common symptom is abdominal pain, which some people describe as aching or colicky. The pain may be mild or severe, and may be made either better or worse by opening the bowels, passing wind or eating. Pain may recur at a particular time of day, often in the evening. Women may find the fluctuation of pain relates to their menstrual cycle.
People with IBS often feel an urgent need to open their bowels, especially after breakfast. The stools may vary in consistency from hard and pellet-like to loose and watery, or just small amounts of mucus. Afterwards, there may be a sense that the bowels have not been completely emptied.
Women are more likely to suffer from constipation than diarrhoea.
Other symptoms include a bloated abdomen, excess wind, nausea, vomiting and indigestion. Some people also experience a sense of fullness. If the main symptom is diarrhoea, food passes through the digestive system faster than usual.
There may also be associated problems, such as back and groin pain, lethargy, depression, disturbed sleep and a tendency to urinate more frequently. The need to pass water is sometimes very urgent, and doing so can be painful (these symptoms are more common for women).

it could be, trapped wind and bloating are very common signs of IBS, but u are better off getting it checked out by your doctor, just to make sure there are no other problems causing these symptoms. also, u could try making a note of the food u have eaten before u get these symptoms. see if there is a common factor. IBS can also be triggered by stress. see if these problems are worse after any stressful times during your week. another thing that can help IBS & digestive problems is taking a pro biotic. i take a tablet called Multibionta. (i'm from the UK, not sure if it's available outside of the UK) it's a multi vitamin & pro biotic. it contains a higher and more effective dosage than those little yogurt drinks like Yakult do.

I'm an IBS sufferer and have been told by my doctor that every individual IBS sufferer can have different symptoms and severity of the problem so yes it could be that but then again it could be any number of things from trapped wind, gastric reflux or a general gastric problem so you need to make an appointment with your doctor and get it investigated.
good luck

O.k. Have you recently changed your diet? It may sound odd, but maybe a course of charcol tablets (they absorb excess gas) might help, and then a good look at whether or not you are eating the right amount of fibre. Too much can be as bad as too little. Peppermint oil tablets have been a help to many with IBS, and stomach pains can be eased with a hot water bottle in the same way period pain can. Oh yes, see your doctor and rule out anything serious.

IBS can only be diagnosed when other possible causes have been eliminated.

If the pain is debilitating then you need to go to the doctors and have it diagnosed. I would also advise keeping a food pain and stress diary to determine whether there is a food/ time/ stress trigger. You need to write down exactly when you eat when you get the pain and the times and how you where feeling stressed/ relaxed etc. See if there is an obvious link.

I have IBS caused by Gluten intollerence and this is how mine started out. Go see your doctor and have it investigated. As several people previously mentioned the sympthoms can be very different for different people. Another good tip is to keep a food diary and look at what you have been eating when you get the pain or when you get very bloated.

Good Luck!

I agree with Zippy it does sound as if you have IBS, the awful thing is that the more fruit, veg and wholemeal bread you eat the worse the condition becomes. Visit your doctor he can give you some medicine or you can get some from the pharmacy that you can take just when the symptoms appear. Good luck

Could be down to your diet - above left of your groin area is where a lot of pain would be felt if you had IBS - unfortunately it seems to be different for everyone and there is no real 'cure' for it - best see your doctor .

Sounds like it could be your gall bladder. This is how I started out. I would eat. Have terrible pains. Then it would go away. Then it finally got so bad that I would double over just walking through a store.

Gall bladder pains dont always have to be right under your right rib cage either.

Better get it checked out. A busted gall bladder is really ugly.
