It appears that it's owned by two friends--Fernando Duarte (Nando) and Robert Brozin--who started the chain in South Africa.

I know a man who works for the food standards commission and is also a Muslim. He now only eats meat when he goes back to Pakistan or another Islamic country because he says the halal meat served here (in the UK) is only actually halal 50% of the time. So i can well believe Nando's has been lying, prob to make money from the Muslims who are already limited in where they can go out to eat.
