we are picking up our little girl chocolate lab on April 13th, we are getting her from another state and I will be flying in to pick her up. It is ok for her to fly back that night with me right? And since she will be so small I should be able to bring her right on the plane with me as a carry on in a small crate or something. I was wonderding if anyone else has done this and if so what they used to transport the puppy and what to do if she goes potty on the plane. I was planning on just bring some bags and wet wipes or something, haha, just to be safe

Also, any cute names for her? Not cocoa or brownie, but I wouldnt mind something relating to brown or chocolate, just more original, havnt thought of anything good yet. Thanks!!

First I believe you have to notify the airlines before you bring her on the flight. Each airline has their own rules about bringing an animal on the plane. Also some airlines have a rule of how many animals are allowed in the cabin with the owners. Also they can tell you what kind of carrier they will allow.
I know it's alot of rules but do all your checking before you fly back this way you will know which air line will accommodate your needs and your pups needs. Just a phone call to your air line will ease your mind and then there will be no surprises.

Congratulations on the new addition!

Be sure to check with the airline before you get her about having her in the cabin. It does cost an additional fee & a health certificate from a veterinarian will be required. They have strict weight/size requirements for dogs who fly in-cabin, as well as strict guidelines on the type and size of pet carrier that can be used. I recommend purchasing a crate and taking it to the airport a day or two before you depart to be sure it is acceptable, if not you have some time to find one that is. Potty training pads make great cage liners. Stack several in the crate and you can remove the top layer if she pottys. Also airlines have a limit as to how many pets are allowed on board on a flight, so if the limit is 3 and you're the 4th person to check in you're out of luck. I do not recommend having a puppy fly cargo. I know many breeders do it with no problem, but it is just not the best environment. There are fluctuations in temperature and air quality, as well as excessive noise, all of which is very stressful.
Good luck with your new girl :) (how about naming her Godiva)

It should be fine as long as the flight isn't much longer than four hours and the puppy stays with you. I would bring some toys along to keep her distracted since she will probably be missing her mom and siblings. Stuffed dog toys with a squeaky inside tend to be the most popular but get a fairly silent one so it doesn't annoy the other passengers. A small crate with some blankets inside is the best for transporting. Make sure the crate isn't too open as dogs like their crates to feel more like a den. I would bring some rags for any accidents she may have. Good luck:)

Congratulations!
Sorry I can't help with the flying info much, but I thought they do not allow animals in the cabin anymore because of allergies. Unless it is a service dog. You should call the airline and ask if there are flights that allow pets in the cabin.
I had a Chocolate Lab years ago, and she still is my #1 girl in my heart, even after other wonderful dogs, you always have that favorite!
Labs are quite silly untill they reach about 4 years of age, so be ready for some frustration :)
As for names...... My girl was called Bryna, it meant "dark protector" in one book. She was a typical loving Lab, but did growl at a man one day and I was shocked. We found out later, he was a convicted sex offender!Get a baby name book and read it on the plane. Wait until you spend a couple days with your pup before choosing for sure, in case it doesn't suit her personality.

I have a 5 year old male Chocolate Lab and he is the love of my life. Congratulations!

Definitely research as much as you can and talk to the airlines - I wouldn't put my dog in a crate on a plane unless he was with me. Call a vet, at least. The last thing you want to do is scare the heck out of the poor little thing.

Everybody names their chocolate lab something related to chocolate, I'd skip that. How about Roomba? That's our nickname for our dog, as he is our automatic floor cleaner.

Good luck!

***I wholeheartedly agree with gands4ever's post saying to never, ever hit or smack or try to scare your chocolate lab. I fought against this kind of disciplining advice from "trainers" and friends and family who condoned smacking with a newspaper, etc...and never used my hands for anything but kindness - it has paid off in a dramatic way. My dog is 100 pounds of muscle, and is the gentlelest, happiest, best behaved, sweet dog I've ever known (everybody agrees!) He is an "alpha male", too, and he has virtually no agression. Be sure to keep your puppy intellectually stimulated - they are SO SMART and want to investigate everything. My dog understands 100+ different words and phrases because I talked to him constantly. They love to hear your voice! Enjoy!

first go to the library and get a couple books on how to train that puppy! it will save u alot of grief and you wont believe how fast they learn .my lil girl is now not so little, she is 45 lbs at 5 months old. pure bred black lab with a hell of alot of energy .as far as flying ask the airline she will probably have to be checked in and ride in the luggage compartment . not a good thing for a scared young puppy .is there anyway u could fly one way and rent a car home? this will give u alot of time to get to know this cute new addition to your home and you will be rewarded with loyalty for it .never hit her plz this is not a way to train she will become afraid of you and we all know scared cornered animals bite ! names choco...fudge...we named our lil girl "cabella" and call her "bella" for short.i believe cabella in spanish is "beautiful" we didnt know this till after she was named ! good luck this is a long comitment you are getting into

You may want to try calling the airport and ask those questions. You may not be able to take her on the plane. I think that have to be a certain age before they fly.
