Definitely not for every night.. and even the captain's party does not require 'formal' wear, just good dressy clothes. Check with your travel agent though as some cruise lines are more casual than others.

There are 2 formal nights on a standard 7 day cruise. My husband brings one suit and 2 shirts and ties. I bring an evening gown for the more formal of the 2 nights and a cocktail dress for the other. I know of people who really dislike dressing up so they choose to order in room service or dine in the casual dining area. Choose what you like. What fun! Bon Voyage!

Formal attire is not required every night although smart casual dress is appreciated on most ships.
Alot of ships are now very casual so it is worth checking with the company you booked with as to the dress code in the resturants

not required for every night, just captin's night. you are not "required" to go, although they would love for everyone to come.
