You might check with the prosecutor's office, some areas have driver safety programs. If you take the program (at your cost) the ticket would be reduced to a nonmoving violation.
If you can't get it taken care of that way, you are probably stuck with it. The reduction in speed on the ticket was a nice gift from the officer though.

Does your State / Province authorize "Traffic Violator School"? If they do, request the court to allow you to attend. If you really do have a clean record they will grant this action. Depending on how your courts operate you may have to pay a fine and a fee to attend the school, but when you submit the schools "Certificate of Completion" to the court your citation will be dismissed, and no points will show on your driving record so your insurance carrier will never know.
WARNING: Don't be late for class. Many schools will drop you from the class if you show up late, and you will have to pay the fees all over again.

Instead of just paying the ticket, you should fight it!/Take it to a judge. Alot will happen on your side when you see a judge.
The police officer will have to show up (most dont) and ticket is dismissed. But if he does show up, Just plead your case as you have here, the judge may understand and lower your fine, or maybe throw it out. The judge is a driver too, and im sure he knows of the speed traps.
Also radar guns are not reliable.
Good luck

Admit you make a mistake and hopefully the judge will reduce it a bit.
Like the police say "next time, leave earlier so you don't have to drive so fast to get there".

I heard...but I dont know if it works, and I doubt it, but...that if you send in your check for extra money, they have to issue you a refund. When you recieve the check, don't cash it, and because the issue isn't resolved and is still in queue, they will not post the points.
