Hi all, i work in customer service and i get the most sweetest customers at my store.
I guess you can say i'm lucky to work in a area where the nicest people shop.
I have fun with them telling jokes back in forth anything to show them i'm glad their there.
My question is i always hear customers say they wish the people who work in customer service were friendly and would smile, but when you are friendly and smile , their rude, and it's not because they're having a bad day because i see them laughing with their friends and family.
I brush it off because the 99% are soo sweet it makes up for it.
Now i'm not complaining i just want to understand better so the next time i see a customer like that i'll know or understand better to try and get a smile out of them.
I'll be going out of my way to say hope your days been well and they wont say a word like i didn't even exist even though i'm right in front of them.
Any tips would be appreciated.

Actually yes they are the females that are rude.
To the comment about letting something like that bother me, it didn't bother me i just want to know how i can get them to cheer up is all.
Also about the too sugary thing lol that was cute, but hey i rather be too sugary than a rude employee who acts like they don't want to be there. As i encounter rude retail people as well and it feels like crap so i don't want customers to feel that way after i take care of them.

If you have 99% of your customers are nice to you be thankful you must be a very attracting woman that has a lot to do with it you did not say if the customers that have a bad attitude were women or men i,m going to guess that they are women if I,m right the next time you run into one of them give them a complement on something that they are wearing just kill them with kindness I wish you worked for me you sound like you really care about your customers and a lot of customer service people don,t have that attitude don,t give up on trying to get 100% of your customers to like you it can be done. I to take pride in what I do I have a night club now but befor I was in the car business I don,t care what you do for some customers you can not make them happy they all think you are out to get them not true sure we all make money on every thing we sell if notwhy would we be there

Hi! I have encountered the exact same thing. The only thing I have come up with is that these are the customers who do not trust the sincerety of the people behind the counter at the stores, etc. I mean, I have done the same thing by going out of my way to acknowledge them and being very sincere when asking how their day has been going, and even though they are rude in return, I still give them a very sincere "thank you, and thank you so much for coming in today", but they still just give me a cold stare, or walk off, cutting me off while I am thanking them. Oh well, with the way most of the customer service people are toward customers these days, its really no wonder. I can't blame them for that, as I have been treated unbelievably bad by people supposedly in "customer service".

I hope that helps! And I am really happy for you that you work with so many kind people!! That is so rare and such a treat!

Have a really nice day!

I also work as a sales assistant and sometimes i cannot bear it...I try to be nice and most of the time i am. but i think being nice can be 'successful' if both people or parties make an effort. As a store assistant i greet all customers that come accross my till, but some of them do not even bother saying back hello to me.even if i try and pretend it doesnt matter,it actually hurts me. they make me feel unworthy of having any contact with them...Other customers are very polite and smiley, and i wished ALL customers are like that...but alas!
As we all know (whether a mameber of the staff or a customer ourselves) the last contact we make at the shop is most important and at times the last contact is unpleasant...
Many a times i was angry at customers attitude and i decided i dont desrve it. They say that a smile works best, but what if sometimes it doesnt....
well i came up with a solution...i decided to give my best at giving a good customer service and if someone was rude to me,i would not bite my tongue and keep silent just because HE/SHE is a customer. If i am treated unwell by some grumpy client i would not go out of my way to please him/her...i have actually learned to answer back.i know it might sounds crazy but it helps me be more confident in myself. Sales assistants are also people and have feelings, and they do not deserve to be stressed out for no apparent reason. They/we do not need to be looked down upon just because we serve a customer.

I am sorry if i sound too aggressive but this question is very appropriate, and i wanted to share my feelings about it.thank you so much.

I absolutely hate to shop, and the only thing worse is when I have to return something. I am never rude, but neither do I want to stand there and chit-chat. I just want to do my business and get the heck out of there. I really hate it when someone TELLS me to smile- like they're telling a dog to shake hands. Just because I am not smiling and all chippy doesn't mean I'm in a bad mood, it's just because I don't want to be there. Peace to you.

where i live i despise going into the mall because 98% of the retail sales girls are miserable. they are rude and act like they dont want to be there. Recently i have notcied that when one is friendly i tend to ignore them, as i have gotten used to attitude and dont expect them to be polite. I have caught myself and am making an effort to be nice even when the sales girl is miserable.

Carry a gun...shoot them in the pinky toe. Their attitude will change real quick because you'll send a note to the hospital saying "if you were nice you'd still have ten."
