Our concrete basement floor was painted and we kept flooding, we recently had drain tiles installed and would like to paint the new concrete to match the rest. Do we need to use any sort of primer before floor and porch paint? If so what kind of primer ? Thanks

it needs to be cleaned with muric acid first. second you need a paint made for cement floors. if not it will peel and scratch. Some floor paint does not need a primer others do so check the can. What we used was a special epoxy type of paint and comes with paint flecks that you sprinkle on the floor before the paint dries. it gives the floor a nicer look. we got it lowes but I am sure just about any hardware store would have it.

You can get special paint and primer/sealers for use on concrete and cement floors. This helps to seal in the cracks helping to prevent from small leaks and condinsation. Call your local hard ware store and they will be able to recommend a few brands for you and answer and remaining questions regarding prep work needed to be done before, and steps to make it easier. Hope this helps, have a good one.

You want to use a product call dri-lok from a company called UGL. It will seal and protect the floor and concrete much better. Available at all hardware stores or big bos stores.
Make sure to read the instructions for surface prep first.

You dont have to prime the cement. The concrete must be clean ,dry and fully cured. The enamel paint you apply will adhere just fine.

i suggest you clean it first, free from any dirt or dust, then use an elastomeric paint as primer then sand it to the desired level then proceed with the colored paint that you want to match the rest.
