Do you have a milk man? Do you think it helps support local farmers? Is it not worth a few extra pence for quality?

Hi, Yes i do have a milk man i have had the same milk man for 21years. I work in a top named supermarket, and i do buy milk from them but more often than not i forget to get it. I think it's important to support local producers, Hurrah! for the milkman.

I do have a milk man, cos its easier. But I dont really think that it supports local farmers, or is any different quality than the supermarket stuff, surely both the milkman and the supermarket get their milk from the same place?

i think you do right, i do the same. Better to fund local business than massive supermarkets.

It might not be cheaper or better, but you are keeping a neighbour employed, which helps keep your area a decent one.

The only sad thing is ours has to use plastic still, instead of glass as he cant hope to make a profit without the use of plastic. shame.

Supermarkets get their milk from major suppliers, many road miles away, for very very low price. it is then mass produceed, followed by loads more road miles back to you.

Local producers, use local milk that has travelled only a few miles, they sterilise locally, then deliver. How much better is that for everyone?!

EXTRA - I think the key message to some replies, is know your mikman, mine is 2 miles away, he does use local farms (l live next to one) my milk has travelled between 4 and 13 miles depending on which cow the milk has come from, until it reaches my cup of tea. So yes, it does benefit local people, but i dont expect all townies (or even country folk) to understand this.

EXTRA EXTRA - sadly farmers are not allowed to sell milk direct to user any more, hygiene thing. it has to be sterilised. Although organic milk, just filtered through muslin would not hurt anyone and provide more goodness, but those are the rules. Heavy fines for farmers who disobey.

I don't think buying from a Milkman actually supports your local farmers, would not buying from them direct be more supportive(although there is the environmental issue of travelling to & from the farm)
