I am an atheist, and I don't intend on converting to any religion.

However I feel that if I am to have an educated opinion on something, I need to know a little about it!

So where can I go (websites are most convienient), for a good overview of the religion? It's major historical events, figures and beliefs etc.

How about visiting a Mosque for a tour and some educational brochures. Make yourself clear that you are interested ONLY in learning and not converting. And anyone can enter a mosque and mingle with the Muslims and sit with the Imaam (Muslim Priest).

Depending on where you live, go to

www.islamicfinder.org enter your zipcode and it will give you the Islamic organizations or Mosques around you.

The best thing is to find a library or bookstore. There you can get books about Islam. YOu can visit a local masjid and meet the Muslim community. They will tell you a lot of important facts. I was looking at Borders and Barnes and Noble where they have books on Islam in the Religion section.

I would also be ready to answer your questions. My email is ayaz_niazi2003@yahoo.com

Islam is a very complicated but interesting religion I think.

I've found so much on the Internet but the best thing is to go to your local library. There is so much there on this subject from all different points of view.

HANDS DOWN read the work of Ibn Warraq. He is one of the few serious scholars on the history, theology & crititiques of Islam. Aside from the references below, his work also shows up periodically in magazines such as "Free Inquiry."
