When Iraq has a stable government that won't fall in on itself as soon as we leave. If we were to leave today the civil war in Iraq would turn into a regional war. Countries would see a weak nation and a void and do whatever they can't to get a nation that is the same ideologically and sympethetic to their nation. That would be bad overall for the region and the world.

We may have made a mistake by going into Iraq in the first place, but we made this mess and we would be irresponsible if we left and made everyone clean it up. We got to stay until Iraq is viable on its own.

there will be no "we got the job done"...i used to believe in this war but no more. this is a thankless job and if we can get out before the next presidential election it would be a miracle.

even the new president will not pull all the troops out of Iraq.

the government will always have a presence in Iraq for a long long time

Network television will show the last flight out from the roof of the American Embassy at Baghdad, stuffed with those wealthy Iraqis that were already within the embassy compound walls. The copter will then make a crash landing upon the deck of an aircraft carrier awaiting offshore. The last copter out of Baghdad will then be unceremoniously pushed overboard when it should have been preserved as a museum artifact.

When Iraq has it's own government set up and in control, and they stop fighting amongst themselves. Unfortunately, I don't think that's ever going to happen.

When Iraq tell us they are capable of taking over and protecting themselves from their whacked out neighbors who are trying to overthrow their newly formed government. It won't be long.
