your problem is you bought Sony from Best Buy. thats why they dont sound good. most of the crap Best Buy sells doesnt sound good.

your speakers are not 220 watts. i know thats what the box might say, but thats a "peak" power rating. pretty much they just put 220 watts on the box so people think that the more wattage the speakers are, the better they'll be. wrong. those speakers are probably about 50 watts rms. rms, is the constant wattage you want to give them.

your cd player should be fine, its the speakers dude.

if i were you i'd return the speakers. then i would find a shop in town that sells a few of these brands.

Boston Acoustics
MB Quart
Kenwood Excelon
Pioneer Premier
Diamond Audio

if you listen to any of the 6.5's of these brands, i dont think you'll even walk into best buy thinking car audio again. if you think you can afford these brands, know what you want, and look on ebay, or on www.woofersect.com

good luck.

The xplode speakers are a fine brand, they aren't the best, but they are decent. Chances are, you bought a bad pair. take them back and exchange them.

How much power is your amp pushing out? The rms on those is around 100 watts. You may be pushing to much power through them, try wiring them together into one side of the amp, see if that helps, if not, it's just a bad pair of speakers.

The main problem is the brand you have. Sony does not make very good car audio whatsoever! Check out www.diamondaudio.com For a reasonably priced brand at outstanding performance.
You can find really good deals on diamond audio on ebay.

Sony is not a good brand for component speakers. They are alright for the subwoofers but their smaller speakers are not the greatest. It may be a wiring problem but I am not exactly sure of your set up.

if you bought these from an unreliable source you could have bought returned speakers.
those speakers should be fine but mass-manufacturing is never perfect.
try taking them back to whoever you bought them from and have them diagnose and fix the problem... for free, or threaten a lawsuit: its only about $75 for those speakers, right? i doubt they'll give you any more trouble if you threaten to sue.
