Curtains versus blinds?

Do curtains seem out of date to you?
Which window coverings are better all-round.

I feel curtains are better for looks and for maintenace.
They are softer to the eyes, they add texture and give a more warm feeling than blinds. They are also a lot easier to clean. Most fabrics can be washed into the washing maching and dried. While blinds are big, baulky and a pain in the but to wash.

Blinds can add a more modern clean feeling to a room and can be combined with curtains. I prefer a roll down shade to a blind, which also work well with curtains. They are also hidden when they are not pulled down so all you see are the curtains. These are also easy to clean. Pull down, wipe with a cloth, dry and roll back up.

I like them both, for differst rooms. In my bedroom I have blinds with a valance but plan to change them to plantation shutters. In my living room and dining room a have drapes. I hung them about four inches above the frame of the window. I used decorative rods. When you look at the window you see about three inches of the painted wall above the frame. It's really unique and adds heigth to the room. Give it a try. I hate frilly curtains and drapes, especially the sheer wrap around style (that's only my opinion).

we like to have both curtains and blinds while the curtain hides the blind while it is up and leaves the room with the warm home feeling they can be left in place } { and the blinds do all the work no muss no fuss

I have mini blinds downstairs and curtains upstairs. I have noticed that the upstairs stays alot cooler throughout the entire year even in summer and they dont keep out the light. I prefer blinds cause you can choose how much light you want to let in your house.

Blinds are definitely more modern, but I still have curtains in my house. I find they hold a much more comforting, and subtle elegance you cannot get from the sometimes robotic, generic and streamlined appearance blinds can present.
