My cat sucks on clothing I'm wearing and needs it as she would do when getting milk from her mother, she also purrs all the time when I talk to her. I just wondered if maybe it was because she was taken away from her mother too young (not by us though) She is very small for her age too, she's 2 but only looks about 6 months old, the Vet says she is perfectly heathly though!. Any suggestions would be appreciated!.

I had a cat that did the very same thing.
She was only 4 weeks old when we got her...I know now that a four week old kitten is much to young to be taken from it's Mother...I didn't know it at the time...this was almost 25 years ago...the cat lived to be just shy of her 19th Birthday.

My Vet told me that she was sucking on things like sweatshirts, blankets and socks because the warm and fuzzy feelings of those items made her think of suckling on her Mother.
I was never able to break her of the habit completely, all though she didn't do it as much when she got older.

One of my cats suck on the tip of his tail when he is falling asleep..... I think it is comforting to him. The "sucking" can be a big problem if the cat uses items around the house to suck on.... like blankets, yarn, etc etc as these types of things can have fibres that come loose and can cause blockages in the cat stomach/intestines. I'm not sure if the cat will ever stop doing this.... my cat has been doing it for about 4 or 5 months and he doesn't seem to have any intention of stopping.....perhaps when the cat is an adult he will stop. Good luck.....

Yes, I would say so. It is quite common in cats that were taken away from their mother too soon.

They do often get over it.

Some cats also seem to really like the starch that is in some clothing too.

It is also a bonding and self-reassurance gesture and this is also normal since she is such a petite cat.

Yes, your kitty has adopted you and She sounds like a happy cat, so don't worry. If the vet says she is healthy then she is, I think it is cute that she does this. I have had kittens that lost their mothers too soon, and they are so affectionate and loving. So enjoy your kitty, she just loves you so much. She may or may not grow out of this stage.

Our kitten come to us from the breeder at only 2 months old. Now 6months. She still thinks I am the mommy. She will keep talking to me non stop if I don't answers her. Very talkative. I mean meowing to me in different tone.. Don't worry, just enjoy her. You are the only family she has.
Good luck.

She more likely thinks of you as her litter mate. If the vet says she's ok, stop worrying. Just enjoy.
