Well, for the most part I'm here to exchange information and ideas and relax. That's all.

But occasionally I find someone rather stuck in dogma, at which point I DO rather hope to 'change' their mind. Because I think it's an awful insult to our abilities to learn and reason not to use them.

So sometimes my Q's and A's are designed to make someone question a bit. Whether that deepens the faith they already have or weakens it, I don't care. I just hope that they stop being quite so unquestioning and take a bit more time to really arrive at their beliefs.

Probably naive of me to think it may work, but hey. I like to give it a try every now and again. And maybe a bit pompous too. After all, if they are happy, what's the problem?

I think I may have to go away and think about this. But did you change my mind? Not sure yet!

Live long and prosper.

I don't expect to change anyone's belief... not trying to. And this isn't a good place for Debate... asking one question and getting answers isn't really a debate (chat is more suited for Debate). I don't think any of it really changes anyone's belief or mind about a lot of things.... but maybe, with some of the more moderate people here ( I know, I know! There's not many) maybe the image of some of the Non-Believer groups will not have such a bad light put on them. *shrug* I know, it would literally take a miracle for that to happen on a large scale... but sometimes, it only takes one.

No one really needs to. All of the major religions have the same focus. All want good to prevail. All believe in a higher power of some sort, whether it is called God or Buddha or whatever. All hope that the actions they make on earth will determine where the souls go afterward. Teaching through fear, only creates fear. Teaching through love creates love. If anyone is running around trying to change other people's minds about something based on fear, they've lost their whole focus on what their religion is all about in the first place.

I believe the problem stems from people taking their religions out of context to how they, themselves interpret them. All we really need to learn in this world is the Golden Rule: 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you'. How complicated can something so simple get?

i'm in all probability very naive if I stated sure... yet then i might additionally be mendacity. i do no longer care despite if somebody alterations their concepts because of the fact of a few thing I stated. it rather is their freedom to take what I say as despite they like. What I do anticipate, is that individuals admire my opinion, as you will desire to in a acceptable debate, and not injury it down... even despite if that's a procedures fetched. 0.5 the time i'm merely taking the piss besides, or being sarcastic.

It happens. It can depend on the questions we ourselves are asking. And the responses to them. And how we read or want to percieve them.We are all individuals with choices to make for ourselves.Otherwise why are you yourself, asking, answering and reading on this site.I dont believe you are on here just for a laugh.Do you?.That would make some of us look like we hadnt a problem in the world to talk about .But then,if we hadnt what would we be doing on here, answering you?????????BE HAPPY SWEETHEART.

no, but I met some interesting people from all sides of the fence. That alone was worth coming here. The best thing I think you can hope for is to make someone think.

I certainly hope I don't. I'd never be able to sleep again if I thought I'd even for a moment influenced someone to walk the path of benevolent tolerance.
It's not like I come here to preach the 'message', but I sometimes fear my extreme piety may be able to influence the unaware through the awesome power of electromagnetism...

I sincerely hope not, but you have to marvel at some folk's persistence. I don't know if it's faith or naivete'.

Highly doubtful that any Christians are going to "convert" any atheists, and equally doubtful that any atheists will appeal to the Christians' sense of logic.

The categories of Politics and Religion are virtual mud wrestling rings; people must just enjoy brawling and hurling insults.
