We have a similar bird in Africa called a Guinea fowl - about the size of medium chicken. Although a guinea fowl is more blue than brown. Check here to see if it is the same - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinea_fowl

Vulture?

Cassowary?

Emu?

Ostrich?

Turkey?

I reckon it might be a Cassowary though. Very interesting, but extremely dangerous creature. Very dinousaur-like with a large claw on each foot.

sounds like a cassowary if it's a large bird, or a roadrunner if small.
