Bagavad Gita is the dialogue between Shri Krishna and the warrior Arjuna. It took place in the battle field of Kurukshethra in India some 5040 years ago approximately, before the actual commencement of war. Arjuna was deluded because he has to fight with his grandpa, his preceptor, his uncles and close relatives. He was not willing to slay them in the battlefield since they are to be revered by him. Then Shri Krishna who is the charioteer of Arjuna has chided him for his cowardly decision and asked him to fight the war since that was the right thing a warrior has to do. nagarajan.

Western scholars assume it was between 500-50 BCE but there is considerable supporting data suggesting that it was written around the time of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras and also the Mahabharata so that would be around the 4th millenium BCE....interesting historical stuff. Look it up sometime for more detailed information. Best to you.
