It depends. Used to be 70 pounds, now more commonly 50 pounds. If you have a paperticket it should tell you the weight allowance on the right side somewhere. You definitely need to check with your airline. Going over the limit is very costly. Although I had an experience lately, where my suitcase was too heavy. The nice lade at the counter brought me an empty box to fill up. She taped it shut and put my name..... on. I didn't have to pay. So, you may want to have a collapsible, lightweight nylon dufflebag or such stashed away in case that happens.

If you had left a month ago you would have been in luck - British Airways allowed 70 pounds. They just changed their policy and now it matches the weight limit in Europe - 23 Kg or about 51 pounds. If you are a frequent flyer you may be allowed to pack more bags. An extra bag is cheaper than an overweight bag! Bring a collapsible bag if you are in doubt.

The most sensible & savest way to find out for sure is to ask British Airways. Depending on whether your traveling on tourist class or business or first class, the allowed weight is different, also with different airlines.

Check your ticket it should say on there. If not ask your travel agent or check terms and conditions online.

BA are now charging per bag. You are allowed 1 x 23kg bag but not 2 x 11.5kg
