Hi, i have a 8 year old male cat, and we was given a unwanted kitten.(female)
What i done was
1) put the kitten in a cat basket in the front room, and just pretended it was not there, and let my older cat notice her first.
2) then after half an hour i transfered her into a cage cat basket so my older cat could then see her.(done while he went into the kitchen)
3) my older cat started to flirt with her!!!, then after about 15 Min's i opened the cat cage, so they could get introduced to each other.
Then kitten jumped out, but we made sure that we made a big fuss of our older cat.
They got on really well, and still do after 6 months together.
I do not know if i was lucky, but the have really taken to each other.
Good luck in finding a new kitten, but i would recomend a female.

Either if the older cat has been neutered. Your cat will be a bit bossy with the kitten for a few days until the kitten learns that he is boss cat in your house but then after that he will settle down.

Make sure that you show extra attention to your male cat when you get the kitten so that he knows he is still no1 in your house.

Good luck

If your cat is not neutered then you need to get him neutered before introducing another cat or kitten into the household. Once your cat is neutered it won't make a whole lot of difference what sex kitten you get.

However you should make the introductions carefully and be prepared for some initial hissing and spitting until things settle down. You also need to be prepared for the fact that they may never get along and will avoid each other and the dominant cat may bully the other cat.

I have a nine year old male cat and added a 5 month old male kitten to the house and it took only 2 days for them to become great playmates. Male or female, I really don't think it matters as long as they are all fixed.

My first concept is that a 5 week previous kitten somewhat desires to be with its mom till a minimum of 8 weeks minimum, to earnings what it desires. If the kitten is rather in straight forward terms 5 weeks, then you certainly've some genuine annoying circumstances purely before you getting it to boost up sufficient. Switching blankets is a strong recommendations-set, as properly as taking a towel and rubbing each of them with an identical towel, to mingle the scents. Lucy is in all probability to coach some good dislike, such as hissing and growling because of the fact the kitten will become a rival that any one isn't. which will fade by way of the years, and you plan a steady creation additionally. yet somewhat the wonderful recommendations-set is a 2d kitten to take out all of the flexibility out on one yet another, and allow Lucy regulate. Lucy is rather interior the senior selection, and you're turning out to be a tiny teen. yet somewhat, kittens might desire to be with their mom for no less than the 1st 8 weeks, yet i understand now and back that isn't achieveable.

this can be a difficult especially with a cat of such age???? my first bit of advice would be to get your cat neutered therefore you will not have any unexpected kittens turning up if you decide to get another cat. your best bet would to get a female and also have her neutered. after all to boys together will result in fighting regardless of what you do? its just their instinct.

If your cat has been neutered, it doesn't really matter. Make sure you get the kitten 'done' as well, when it's 6 months old!
