My cat keeps running laps around the house, but just lays there when I try to get him to play with his little jingle toy (he normally loves it). He randomly runs away whenever we come near him, and not only do we never hurt him, he never used to do this before. He used to be really good about scratching his scratchy thing, but lately he's been scratching the furnature, which we broke him of a year ago. He seems to be doing it just to be a butt, because he never does it for long and darts away if we try to grab him.
He doesn't appear to be in any sort of pain, and he's still normal and cuddly sometimes.
Could this have to do with the change in seasons? Any ideas for getting him to stop scratching?

He has a lot of energy and it is his way of burning it off. A cat needs things that are different to him and they get bored easy with their old toys and such. he is just fine, but needs more attention and some new playthings. Cats, like kids, can get bored with what used to be their "favorite" toy. And bored cats quickly become pesky even destructive cats. Go get him someting new... something interractive. Don't forget the hard-to-resist laser pointer! Most cats love to chase the little red light (just never point the light directly into his eyes!). If you enrich his environment with interesting stuff to paw, swipe, chase, scratch, climb and perch on, I am sure he'll be the sweet kitty he always has been!

You have to stop thinking of your cat in human terms. It isn't, never was, & never will be subject to the way you think. It's a cat.
