I know I have my favorites...what say you?
Does your choice differ for revolver and semi-autos?
Why?

It depends on the caliber, and to some extent you handgun.

Federal Hydra-Shok and Cor-bon consistantly rank highest in tests of penetration and soft tissue damage. I trust Hydra-shok myself in my 9mm and .40S&W.

I'm going to provide a link...sorry....but this gentlemen truly answers your question, caliber-by-caliber, and gives a lot of relevant information on the topic that you may not have considered. It's a very good read......

I like Winchester silver tip hollow points but they are less likely to feed reliably in a semi-auto.

That is for personal defense. For home defense I prefer a 12 gauge pump with mini magnums and #4 shot because it has just the right level of penetration but won't carry through several walls and possibly hit innocent people in another room or house.

The total impact energy of one round is equivalent to being hit by the entire clip of 9mm rounds.

I like Federal Personal Defense and Double Tap for duty rounds.

Glaser safety slugs for both revolver and auto. My choice does not differ.
For home defense and most ccw circumstances Glaser gives 99% energy tranfer to the target.
