The essential items (and I'm glad so many people have said this) are

Sausage, Bacon, Eggs (fried, scrambled or poached), Black Pudding, Fried Bread and Beans.

Optionally you may also have, Fried/Grilled Tomatoes (yuck), Mushrooms, Bubble or Haggis (you did say British not English)

You are not allowed, Chips or Hash Browns.

You are legally required to drink Tea, not coffee if you are going to call it an English Breakfast.

Its got to be, a good pork sausage, some rashers of back bacon, 2 fried eggs, a grilled tomatoe, some fried mushrooms, Heinz beans and toast or fried bread.

Served with a cup of tea and red or brown sauce.

I agree that you've gotta have bacon, but I would also add some good quality sausage (not the frozen ones), egg, baked beans, grilled tomato, mushrooms, toast & butter, black pudding, HP brown sauce and a large pot of steaming tea. Yum yum, I could eat one right now.

All of it. Bacon, sausage, scrambled or fried egg, mushrooms, grilled tomato, baked beans, hash brown, black pudding and fried bread. Love it.

Guilty pleasure. Even in a breakfast roll.

In fact, for the first time in ages, cooked a big fried breakfast on Saturday, and even my fussy daughter loves it!

Your right mate. A good fry up has to be built around the Bacon.

A scottish fry up is better than an english. it would be bacon, square sausage(which im not sure you get in England), black and or fruit pudding, potoato scones, fried egg and beans if you like. oh and some toast

actually I think you got the question wrong. What you're asking is the breakfast fry up. A real fry up is left over potato, cabbage and peas. You can add any other vegetables you like and fry until brown and crispy but it must be topped off with brown sauce.
