It works in the short term, for some people anyway.

Pros: you lose weight

Cons: it's short term. Too much cabbage is 1) gross and 2) causes diarrhea and gas (how you lose weight). You gain the weight back when the diet becomes unpalatable. You lack some nutrients, so not good for long term. I've done it, ask again about the gas. Urg.

It probably won't hurt you, so give it a try if you want. However, I've recently lost good, permanent weight with a balanced diet (not boring, yay!) with lots of fiber. Exercise is a must, even if you have to start small, like 10 minutes of walking each day. Healthy weight loss should be 1-4 lbs per week, depending on how overweight one is at the start. Best of luck.

GAS! hahaha. And having a hatred for cabbage for years to come :) I did the cabbage soup diet with a friend when we decided to plan a last minute spring break trip to cancun and only had 2 weeks to lose some extra weight and feel better about ourselves. I was about 115 lbs, followed the week long diet by the book, and lost 4 lbs. My friend was about 200 lbs, did the same, and lost 20 lbs. This was all in 1 week. We felt very deprived, sluggish, and it affected our moods and ability to think for that week. We did, however, feel better in our beach clothes. We gained the weight back within a matter of a couple of weeks. I think you lose mostly water weight (It'd have to be for my friend to lose 20 lbs in a week!) It isn't healthy and makes you feel very sick. Its good for quick and temporary weight loss but no good for the real deal. I'd suggest weight watchers for lasting weightloss. My friend lost 80 lbs on it and its something that you can do without feeling deprived. Also, I'm trying to trim down for summer and I've noticed that some parts of the cabbage soup diet are helplful to incorporate in your diet. For instance, eating a banana with a glass of milk makes you lose cravings for sweets. Making cabbage soup and using it to replace one meal a day keeps you healthy but decreases your daily calories drastically to help with weight loss. If you decide to try the diet make sure to buy some tums and gas-x!

well, hmm my mum made it today lol. some ppl here said it tastes grose but look it doesnt hav to taste grose it all depends what ingredients you put in it. When mum or i cook it, we put heaps of tomatoes and tomato paste as it is really good for u and makes the cabbage taste go away if u wanna put it that way. also try put some nice herbs and taste will be awesome i tell ya but yes its tru after few days u get over it. i have never been on it for more than 3 days but apparently if u eat it every day and not much fatty foods u will see quick results. dont eat that on its own for days but try and make it ur meal couple of times a day adn ul get great results.

This diet will help you lose wieght but the result will be quite unstable. Besides, cabbage diet gives you minimum of callories and minimum vitamins as well. Think of your hair and nails, they may go thinner.

Well, it works because it reduces the number of calories you normally would eat. However, it also gives you gas, I think.
By the way, ANY eating plan with reduced calories like that would work to make you lose weight. Why torture yourself with CABBAGE? :)

It is a starvation diet. You will not get enough quality protein. You will lose a lot of lean mass, your metabolism will decrease and then you will stop losing weight. If you succumb to the inevitable cravings, you will gain all the weight back and then some. If you do not succumb, you will eventually starve to death.

depending on how liberal you are;

con - severe gas!
pro - severe gas! lol

i hate the thought of people going on these fad diets, the only change that modern humans need to make is to start exercising!!! exercise is the key, and it depresses me when i hear obese people say that they have tried 'everything', which is bull!
