I just found this recipe that came with my rice cooker that uses coconut milk, onion, curry, and ginger... I added garlic, pepper, and butter to it too. I thought it was sooo good compared to the regular white rice, which I eat CONSTANTLY

Anything interesting you do with your rice?

I like adding chicken broth to my rice too instead of just water.

But I recently had rice made by a family from Bangladesh (that was my first experience with food from this country - the aroma is wonderful!) and it was AWESOME....actually quite addictive... I got the recipe from the wife....I'm not sure if I'm spelling this right but it's called Pulao. They used jasmine rice but I've done it with plain white rice as well (although jasmine is better).

Fry 1/4 onion, finely sliced
3 garlic cloves smashed
3 cardamom seeds(press down on them in pot to release flavor but don't break wide open)
1 bay leaf, whole
1 cinnamon stick, whole
4 peppercorns, whole
1 chile pepper, whole
and 1 clove, whole
in 2 tablespoon butter for 2 or 3 minutes or until onions and garlic softens over medium high heat.

Add 2 cups rice and stir 2 or 3 minutes or until rice becomes golden but not browned.

Add 3 cups broth or water.

Cover and cook 25 minutes on medium low heat. Enjoy!

I have to add that to my recipe collection. If you want to check out some of the other recipes I have collected, please see website below.

I do the same thing with the coconut milk, ginger, curry etc. but I buy basamti rice (never been a fan of white rice) It has a nutty flavor. I also prefer brown and wild rice combos with herbs and cooked in chicken broth. I like fried rice with peas and scrambled eggs. I like cous cous even more. It's much easier and quicker to cook. I add grilled chicken and vegetables and a little olive oil. For lunch I top romaine lettuce with leftover cous cous and balsamic vinegar.

it depends on the type of rice you are cooking
as a general rule small or medium grain soaks up more flavour than long grain
start heating olive oil with a clove of garlic, after a minute throw away the clove and add to the garlic flavoured oil diced green and red peppers, green beans and any other veggie you would like but no onions
sautee for 3 to 4 minutes at medium heat stirring once in a while
add the rice (small or medium grain) and sautee stirring for 30 secs until it soaks up all the oil, add 2 tablespoons of tomato sauce and mix it well with the rice and veggies
add heated broth ( chicken or beef or veggie depending on the rest of your meal) 2 measures for 1 measure of rice
cook low-medium heat for 16/20 mins uncovered
let it stand for 5/10 mins covered

Everyone thinks my sister and I are weird, but we LOVE butter and vinegar on white rice. Uncle Ben's rice, and when it's done cooking, stir in however much butter and white vinegar you want. I don't ever make this for the rest of the family (very picky 3 year old and 20 month old sons, and a husband who doesn't especially care for rice) but I do make it during the week to take to work for lunch. So good! The butter makes it creamy and the vinegar makes it tangy and tart. MMM!

that was a nice add up to a rice while cooking. but i just would like to ask if you stir your rice once in a while when you add this spices? coz, if you want it to taste good, you have to stir it once in a while, while cooking, to equal the distribution of tasete, or else, spices will just focus on one area and that really gives an aweful taste to rice.

I like to add butter and one of the 'Mrs. Dash' herb blends while the rice is cooking.

I add chicken broth to it instead of water. It is SO much better! Adding stir fried veggetables and chicken over the top is awesome! Very versatile!!

I usually just add some butter, lemon, and dill. Maybe a little salt and pepper, too.
