Not sure if he is the best jump jockey ever, but he's definitely up there.

He's managed to get horses to win that no one else could, and they way he carries them over the line - that man's strength is awesome.

However, I have to agree with the Racing Post readers - Fred Winter's ride on Madarin in the 1962 Grand Jump was the best ride EVER!

This question was asked the other day - and my answer is still the same. Yes, undoubtedly, AP is the best jump jockey ever, and yes, he did appear to treat his horses as a means to an end. But he seems to have mellowed a bit now, and doesn't give them such a hard ride if they don't look like having a winning chance. He is very dedicated; his whole life and lifestyle is one long race and it's interesting to note that he always admired & revered Richard Dunwoody and based his riding style on him and that Ruby Walsh is one of his greatest friends. Let's hope he has some luck in the Grand National this year - the one race that always seems to elude him.

Tony McCoy is one of the most dedicated, stylish jockeys and successful around at the moment, although jockeys like Timmy Murphy, Mick Fitzgerald, Richard Johnson, Ruby Walsh, Robert Thornton are equally as good, and shouldn't be forgotten
They are all really nice guys too which doesn't always go hand in hand with success!!!!

well as a horse man i would say ruby welsh actually handles his horses a little better though there is no argument about his record and strength and will to win but i would say ruby welsh is better horseman! the greatest ... francombe or dunwoody can't decide between them ?

At present he is....but is he as good as Johnny Francome was? Dean Galhiger was brilliant, but a fool to himself!

well, I think the stats say that he is, but as a horseman, I don't think so. He's very, very strong, but I don't think he feels so much for the horses, they seem to be just a means to an end for him...
