i believe it is more for a sense of security rather than anything else.. to be with one person you have a certain knowledge that you are somewhat "safe" they will always be there when no one else will and you can depend on that..... although many times "love" is just lust which is another story :P

Usually, people fall in love with a person that they find attractive and nice but also with someone who demonstrates that they are attracted to us. This creates a situation where a great opportunity is open to us for self-expansion. The fact that they are attracted to us offers a significant opportunity — when this happens, we feel a surge of exhilaration! Thus the reason we fall in love..

some believe that it is all chemicals swimming in your brain telling you that that's hot, go reproduce.
other's believe that God is love, and no true love can be had without him, and that it is a gift from God.
still other's believe that such things are fated to happen(kinda like romeo and juliet, without the poison)
The question Why always leads to philosophy when it comes to matters of the heart. The truth is, there is no wrong answer, so find an explanation that fits you, and believe it.

because they think they want it but when they come to figure out its one of the last things you could ever want..Love hurts and thats something you have to know and be able to face when you take thart first saying of "I love you" and when u say "I really love you" ur looking for trouble...people fall in love for the wrong reasons...

The "Fall"..... cuz they are tipsy... this is verified when they start fighting and yell " i was mad / drunk, when i proposed / commited my self to you..."
While those who live in love for eternity... they are "feel love"... it becomes a sensation with diffrent maginitude of intensity every day....
kinda funny.... but i have my own opinion... ;)

it's an unexplainable part of life... i think it's because everyone needs their counterpart in life... the one that completes them... "the other half"... you get me? it might be because of the media... how they portray the "perfect couple" and people want to be just like them... so give or take it's all in the head and heart... hope it helps! :D
