I am able to boot it up to a point where I will enter my username and password, but when I type my password and click OK, it simply says "Applying user settings" and after a few seconds "saving user settings" after which it gives me the login page again. I must say that I recently removed some viruses from the PC. However, even when they where on it, I was able to start up the PC. It is running on Windows 2000.
Hope someone can help me.

Use your Windows 2000 system disk. Start up your computer with the disk in the drive. When you get the option to "boot from disk" do so. You should get the installation options for Windows 2000. Select "repair a windows installation". This should find and correct any missing or bad system files that are used for boot-up. After that process in complete, remove disk and restart. That should fix your problem.

Make sure that system files were not corrupted and quarantined...
I've experienced this same problem many times with user workstations that have Internet access and ultimately get infected...
