salt, or sodium chloride retains water and it should be stopped at once. Get a diuretic from the drug store...ask the druggist...and if the swelling doesn't go down significantly in a day or two see a doctor. The excess water in your body can affect your heart because it puts more stress on your heart. It will also stretch your skin which will cause it to wrinkle when the water is expelled. Do not stop drinking water completely but a couple of glasses a day for now is sufficient. One other thing. When you begin to pass the water from your body take potassium at least twice a day. When the water will be removed it will take potassium with it it and you will begin to experience cramps and muscle tingling. It may also make the heart beat with an irregular beat. It was undoubtedly the addition of salt to your daily intake that caused the water to accumulate in your body.

Definitely sounds as though your retaining water for some reason or other. Try switching to Saltsense. It's made of potassium chloride instead of sodium chloride and therefore there is much less water retention. With regards to your thyroid function. You stated that it was tested but that it wasn't to far out of whack. What exactly was tested, the tsh, the radical t-3, t-4 differential or was it a proper thyroid uptake scan, which is the 'gold standard'. I would insist on another blood test first, with the t-3, t-4 differential and if this is abnormal. Get the uptake scan done ASAP. Remember only you know your body the best. Don't let the doctors brush you off. Make a list of symptoms and complaints. Take it with you when you see the doctor. Take someone else so that you have a second set of eyes and ears to help so that that have to answer questions. Don't leave the office until you have all of them answered. If the doctor won't take the time to do so. Get a second or third opinion. Be consistent and determined your health is at risk.

I think you know the answer to this question which is yes you should stop taking too much salt otherwise you will end up with severe heart problems. I know because my dear sister-in-law died very recently died as a result of too much salt in her diet which caused water edema and heart damage.
Had it been realised that she had been taking way too much salt perhaps her death could have been avoided. She was very thin but had bloating the same as you have described.
Try to cut down on the amount of fluid but do eat fruit as this contains fluid.
The botton line is that I think you ought to go back to your GP for a check up. All the best

I think the fact that you suddenly started to drink large amounts of water could have tipped your water system and kidneys just a little bit out of balance. Salt can make you retain water, but needing salt is another sign of having lost a lot of salt as in after sweating too much. I think you can reduce your water intake now, just make sure you do drink enough.

Yes, adding a lot of salt to foods can cause water retention. I notice it with my mom if she eats too much of it and I find that I have to be careful how much I take in because of smaller amounts of water retention.
You mentioned that you put a lot of salt on your food for no reason, pls get your thyroid checked to see if this might be playing in to the symptoms you are having.
There was something I heard on tv one time about Morton's salt that years ago their salt did not have iodine in it and a lot of people at that time were having problems with their thyroid. When they started adding iodine to it the thyroid problems started to clear up for a number of the people.
But my suggestion is to pls get your thyroid checked.

no longer inevitably...it relies upon on countless components. some human beings have certainly injury themselves by technique of eating 2 lots water, like over a gallon an afternoon, yet i think of that it particularly is extra approximately being in stability than the rest. whether it particularly is warmer than blazes and/or you're exercising lots and/or you're taking something with a diuretic in it...nicely, you may get dehydrated extraordinarily at the instant, and on occasion dangerously. eating better water can save your existence. A gallon an afternoon could save your existence! this is an severe occasion, tho, do no longer go start up eating a gallon of water an afternoon, LOL! on the different hand, in case you consume numerous prosperous or processed meals, take drugs, smoke, have a short temper and get offended and resentful lots, your physique will grow to be acidic. with a view to guard you from your self, your physique will carry directly to extra water just to dilute the acid. The physique does regardless of it needs to do to stay in stability...while that equipment breaks, we fall unwell and ultimately die! Then there is the month-to-month difficulty for women persons... eating sparkling, organic water is an incredible difficulty to do. you may commend your self for cultivating a wholesome habit! in case you sense such as you're retaining the countless water (and you haven't any longer already screwed up your kidneys or adrenal glands and different significant regulators in the physique), then enjoying numerous unpolluted culmination and salads, eating in user-friendly terms from the edge of the food market (no packed stuff), eating average parts of food, giggling, forgiving, getting numerous relax and sunshine...all those issues will tip your physique to a extra alkaline state so which you do no longer could hold lots water. this is why maximum of spas have you ever consume that way, and why spas are so relaxing, and why they have you ever drink numerous water, too. those activities flush pollution out of your equipment, and "rinse" you out because it have been, with numerous unpolluted water.
