Per se, yes!
The Concept of God has been eluding Mankingd for many a millenia and the "Religions" created to explain this phenomenon have created more trouble than anything else.
So, yes; it's dysfunctional in the modern context.
Cheers!

"is god redundant in this scientific age? "
For you, apparently. But not for me.
"am i alone in believeing in a creator rather than the images of a christian deity that has been thrust upon us."
That would mean that He wasn't redundant to you. Have you made the choice, but still need to understand it?
"without getting into a debate about it, and the answers that clever people give in favour of it, if such a god existed why is all religeon based on evil and vile ideas."
That's your perspective. My 'religion' isn't based upon 'evil and vile ideas.'
"if thre was such a thing as an anti christ does religeon not fit that bill."
Do you mean that religion itself is antichrist? I would say that only those that preach against what Jesus Christ was reported to preach are antichrist.
"i believe in a creator who created this wonderful world and universe not in some monstrous organisations that have caused mayhem."
Okay. But you know Jese never said, "Be religious and be saved." He said to believe in Him and be saved. So we do not need 'monstrous organisations that have caused mayhem', we need to trust God to keep His word.
"am i alone?"
I've been on message boards on the internet in various places and think that you are not alone by the posts I have seen by others. So, no.

Certainly not. But who's responsible for introducing this magnificent creator to you in the first place; was it not religion? And what religion precisely was it that introduced Him to you in that picture? Indeed, God did create this wonderful world and universe free of any fault, but He definitely did see in advance the elements that would give rise to evil and so, challenge His intention out of His creation; at least as Christians, we can so conclude.
Ironically, however, it is there where one finds the roots of democracy; God let things be, despite the fact He could have simply eliminated those elements from the beginning, but it seems that even those elements, had a crucial role to perform in His divine plan, which began with Jesus Christ Himself.
Allow me to ask, my friend, where in Jesus' teachings do you find "evil and vile ideas"? I may agree with you about other religions (probably), but where does this fit in anything about Jesus? His birth? His life? His teachings? His miracles? His divine love? His unequalled sacrifice? His resurrection? What villainy is there in any of that?
If you're lending your ears to the wrong cast to teach you about Him, then this is the result you're sure to end at. Why don't you lend your attention to Him for a change? Read His story, and meditate His word; He'll sure set you back on track.
And to answer your first question, my answer is yes, in the sense that He's the additional part that will make the system work, when all the other parts will fail (which they eventually will); the sense of redundancy that when all scientific endeavors fail, it is only God that will prevail.

First of all understand that this scientific age has created more terrorism, more crimes against humanity because of unbridled greed for self consumption. The so called atom-bombs are the creation of scientific age. Science is mostly used for self-aggrandizement rather than helping humanity. No doubt there are number of valuable inventions in health sector. The information and communication technological booms are the cause of 9/11 and 7/7 phenomena. Though people are fighting among themselves in the name of religion, to day humanity is sustained by spirituality and not by science. The Force which created the cosmos will never abandon its child. In fact God is more relevant to day. LOVE and COMPASSION is the need of the hour. nagarajan.

But why would science make God redundant? God is made no more redundant by science as humans are made redundant by AI robots. Just as AI robots have a human maker, so humans have a divine Maker. Science helps us to understand HOW things work, but as to the ultimate of WHY things work the way they do, science cannot answer those questions for the answers lie with the Creator.

Gods were on the way out anyway, but Darwin put the final nail in the coffin. They just haven't quite laid down and died yet.

ORGANIZED Religion is run by people... PEOPLE can RUIN anything. This does not make God a lie, nor HIS word a lie. GREED and selfishness~ those are the basis for all people do wrong.
Praise God and Jesus ...
and KNOW that its okay NOT to believe in them YET,
BECAUSE THEY believe in YOU~ and they are patient.
