So, my 17th birthday is on Wednesday, but my family doesnt have ANY money at the moment, and I will not get to celebrate it until Thursday. I feel that this takes away from the special feeling of my birthday, and I'm not excited.
They can't even afford a cake until Thursday.

Well..............u cudda been in a REALLY DYSFUNCTIONAL family that didn't give a f***! ...or worse, that were jealous of u, & delibertly ignore u, or put u down, or play really rotten tricks on u...u know, like they truly hated ur a**, & were continually settin' u up...&, ingeneral, ratten u out & vishus things 2 hurt u...It happens in some familys...,but yeah, I know whatcha mean. It's YOUR DAY!, (& they hadda whole year 2 get ready 4 it!) But seriously,..(r u a female?) when I was around that age, altho they did something, & I always got a cake, I wanted MORE STUFF.& there was only 1 answer. 1 solution, & so I was always gettin' out there & hustlin'up little jobs - whatever I cud find, 2 make($$$)cash money! {I babysat, sold "GRIT", sold newspapers, set pins at a bowling alley, caddied at golf courses,, mowed yards, I got & stayed busy 2 make that "EXTRA" money so I cud get more stuff! It worked, & then it didn'i seem as important, whatever people would do or not. re: my birthday. [I never did it much, but I'm not offended when & if somebody makes a big deal about theirs...I always wish them a "HB", & try 2 sound sincere about it...(They are good 4 ya tho, & healthy!.people who have the most are the ones that live the longest & the best u can do/be, is a family that does mention it, & tries 2 do something to make u feel a little "special"! I was lucky... I was in a family like that!

On occasion, life sucks. So make it your birthday and make it special for you. So no one has any money? Well, get someone to make you breakfast in bed. (If not, make it yourself!) Get up earlier to have a long bath. Choose your nicest clothes. Make yourself special.
This is the day you were born and your family love you. Remember that. It isn't about money and gifts. You had the gift of life and nothing can compare. Your family were blessed with the gift of YOU. You can't buy that. But on that day, you can show them you appreciate them and they can show you they appreciate you. So enjoy the love.
Bake your own cake. So what if it doesn't come out right. You'll have a laugh.
BTW - I bet they're feeling really bad about the fact they can't get you anything.

Do not feel that you are not being celebrated. Remember you have been cared for past 16 years by your family and showered love on you. Isn't that a celebration of life ?? My parents had money but I never celebrated it the way today your generation celebrates. But that's different aspect...but I knew how my family had cared for me and took me to new heights of career (and still supporting). So enjoy with your friends and retain a piece of cake for your family :-). Remember you are in the age of "emotionalism". It becomes difficult to distinguish betn right and wrong, good and bad. So never mind if parents could not celebrate today..who knows once you grown up and become a respectable person and your colleagues would celebrate you for your deeds and not for b'day. Isn't that a gr8 honour ?? So be happy and thankful fr your family. HBD

Stop your whining. Your family doesn't have to do anything for you. If there in such financial straits, YOU could do something to make your own day special. Be grateful that you have a family that cares enough to celebrate your birthday, even if it is late, considering that money is really tight. For what it's worth, have a great year.

Well at least they are trying.

So I think you need to make the day special just how you want it. Can you make a cake, you must have flour and stuff in the pantry? how about going out with your firend shopping or something.. do something you enojuy that you can do all the time!
Make it your special day.
