I just got 2 rotty puppy's that are 5 weeks old. I'm crate training and they wake me up like 3 to 4 times a night to go potty. When will this madness end?

My Great Dane pup just turned 6 weeks old today and since he was 4 weeks has not cried to be let out. We started a routine the day we got him to ensure sanity for all. They are still young and miss their mommy for one, they know that as soon as they cried mommy would come give them what they wanted. Pups can usually hold it 2x's as many months old they are. So they will only be able to hold it 4-5 hours. Since everytime they cry you let them out they know what to do to get what they want. Once in the middle of the night is acceptable to let them out unless they have bladdder infections in which case they would need to be taken out more often. How often are you feeding them. We feed Tank at 7am then at 2pm and again at 9pm. We only give him about 1/2 cup of water at night but has a full bowl during the day to drink freely. After they eat take them out until they go potty poop and pee. Reward with good boy/girl and go back inside to bed. If the crying starts within an hour or two and you know good and well they do not have to go ignore them. Eventually they will learn that crying does not get them attention. a great website to visit is www.leerburg.com/housebrk.htm
that is where we got the tips on crating, housebreaking and training our little one. Good Luck

Depends on the dog, but most of the puppies i've had started sleeping through the night at about 12 weeks, on average. It is good that you are crate training them that really helps because they will tend to hold it longer because they are in the crate. Good luck, with the puppies, it will get better soon =)

As they are still so very young, they are unable to control their bladder yet at this point of time. You might like to take note of how long after a meal do they go potty and work around that.My poodle boy is already 5 months old and he still wakes me up once a night to go potty else he ended up soiling the room which i dun want.

since they are so young it might be a few more months. at least they know when they have to go out and let you know. be greatful for that or else you will have a mess every morning. My puppy, a while, wouldnt sleep during the night, he would be in his crate and he would bark and bark and bark all night long.

Just like having kids isnt it. They will also wake you up 3/4/5 times a night... My daughter is 18 now and still gets herself up in the night for a drink (only thing is now she doesnt wake me)

You have two babies. It will take as long as it takes but deff dont listen to the guy who said only give them food and water in the morning. They need lots of fluids to help their kidneys grow and food at least 3 times a day (smaller meals) to help with growth i general.. Your going to have two BIG babies soon!!

why are they away from their mom? puppies aren't weaned until 7-8 weeks. you should have known this crate training takes a while. did you do research before getting them? poor puppies.

you have to understand that they are still too young to control their bladders best is to take them out in the night and let the roam around the house, This will go on till they are around 8 - 10 weeks. Try putting paper around the house and let them poo on that slowly reduce the number of papers that you lay around the house so they get used to one location.
