This girl and I went to the bar for a few drinks. I said we should hang out sometime and get a drink. She ordered $50 worth of drinks. When she found out I wasn't paying her bill she freak and slapped me. I hit her right back and went to jail for the night. Why am I the one that went to jail?

It sounds as though you did indeed have a few drinks, were well tanked up and hit her really hard. Men hit harder than women and are more likely to cause injury. Perhaps they were afraid that you might strike out at a few other people and that the only way to restrain you was to lock you up for the night until you cooled down.

Yes, both of you should have gone to jail. Was there any witnesses that saw her hit you? Sometimes law officials (excluding me) are quick to jump to the womans defense and dont look at the big picture. I dont know what you were charged with, but here you would have got Aggravated Battery, since it occured in a public place.

When you are assaulted (battered) by another person, your response should be to call the police and report it. That is unless you can claim self defense. From the sounds of it, you weren't in fear for your safety. So that means you should have called the police. However, you wouldn't do that because that would mean you would have to admit you got punked by a girl!
Take the incident as a good learning experience, next time, walk away!

Probably because you are a guy and left a mark on the girl when you HIT her. The officers that responded probably got two completely different stories. They see a guy who says the girl hit him and a girl who says a guy hit her and she has a mark from being hit. So...they will arrest the guy. It's not necessarily fair, but that's the way it usually works.

Because she called the police most likey and becaue you hit her.
You had the right to press charges against her also, but did her "slap" leave a bruise or mark, did your hit,
which can be proved in court

Did it to a 240 lb guy 2 weeks ago.. and i'm 170 lbs.. Damn hes gonna need extensive dental work.. but I didnt start it but I damn sure finished it.. is that wrong? I dont think so...
