Regardless if one is a Christian, a Buddhist, a Hindu, Islamic or Jewish, people find comfort in their beliefs. Many Atheists don't believe in some power apart from the physical and tangible world. Many people, who follow a faith or a belief system, believe in something apart of what is physical and tangible. I'm sure many Atheists can say they are happy but what happens to a person when they encounter a difficult time in their lives. Many people who feel they put their trust in something greater can find support in whatever belief system they have. Many atheists don't believe in a source of power to put their trust in. I believe that many Atheists put all their trust on themselves and their own ability to cope with situations. One time a friend of mine, who didn't believe in an after life, lost a good friend of his in a car accident. He was perplexed at the loss of his close friend. It affected him a great deal. So, if having a form of spirituality allows people to cope?

No...You'll only ever be happy if you want to be happy...If you can't find it within, you will never find it without...

People cope with different things in different ways. As an atheist, I do think that it is easier to cope with difficulty when you are religious than it is when you are not religious -- religion gives you the option of believing that there is hidden meaning, or a plan, in misfortune. With atheism, it's quite possible for something bad to happen that simply sucks, without any redeeming value.

That said, spirituality is not The key to happiness. There's no one key to being happy. If anything, the key to happiness is to find out what makes you happy and chase after it.

yes it helps people cope.
even an atheist will call on God in times of great stress. They know God exists, just like the demons do, but they reject God. Turn away from men that do not hold to a healthful teaching of God. They could eventually make you lose your eternal life. Never listen to their talk about no God.
Look around you, and gaze at the wonders of Jehovah.
Happiness on the other hand comes from knowing God and worshipping him and being in a bossom position.

The source of happiness is on your neurotransmitters for the main section. you're satisfied using secretion of Dopamine which makes you satisfied. yet, the biggest to being satisfied is being satisfied with what you have. hence, Serotonin is real happiness using fact it provides off a feeling of satisfaction. Happiness is all on your concepts. It would not exist, hence, a key to happiness would not exist the two.

Depends on your mind set. You agree that the atheists also can find happiness as well as god-fearing people. So peace and happiness comes from your perception of events and circumstances. After all happiness is not a material thing.

If happiness is your goal, then anything can make you happy according to how you think. Where your heart is.

Spirituality gives me a reason to question those that think that there is no spirit. Most of them never had a spiritual experience, according to them. So since I have, I am convinced. I don't have to wonder.

That being said, spiritual experiences didn't make me happy. They were a tool that God used to get me to recognize Him. He makes me happy.

interesting question,

For me my faith is somewhat strong but my willpower is weak, true I still have my fears and doubts, but without my faith counteracting my weak willpower i would probably be fully bed ridden due to my depression. I fight depression without meds, day in and day out, but with my weak willpower i'm just barely making it. It is my faith in something better that keeps me from being KO'ed but i'm sporting a nice "black eye" and "broken nose" in this fight. <-- the words in the "" are used figuratively

Religious faith is a form of denial. It is psychologically healthy to accept difficulties, tragedies, and death, and work through them. Anything else is self-delusion and escapism and serves no real purpose.

I think that's why things like alcoholism, drug abuse and psychiatry are so popular today. Without God, people still need something to turn too.
