use a good conditioner and be sure to get your hair trimmed regularly. when i am late on getting a trim...my scalp gets dry and i have this issue. i also have long hair and very curly.

make sure you are certain it is dandruff. most of the time, if you are itchy and flaky, it is just dry scalp. True dandruff is caused by a fungus and your doctor would prescribe the best medicine for that. If its just seasonal dryness, do not use Head and Shoulders or a dandruff shampoo, its too strong and harsh. Try massaging your scalp with Olive Oil,a few times a week (its water soluble) and easy to rinse out. I have tried this and it feels good and really works well. Or you can try vitamin E oil, but its alot heavier.

Treatment

Nizoral Shampoo anti-fungal/anti-dandruff shampoo containing active ingredient Ketoconazole.

Selsun Blue anti-dandruff shampoo containing active ingredient Selenium sulfide.

The antifungal properties of Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca Oil) have been reported as useful in the treatment of dandruff

Washing hair with rubbing alcohol gets rid of the dandruff and leaves hair feeling soft and clean.

Tar containing shampoos are also used for treatment of dandruff.

It could be because now that your hair is longer, and therefore takes more effort, you're no longer washing it as often as you used to. Or, if you've recently changed your shampoo or other similar products, that could be the case. Dandruff has nothing to do with the length of your hair.

its because of the amount of conditioner used. i had that problem . when you use a lot of conditioner and then you think you got it all out,you didnt. use TRESemme' shampoo and conditioner for dry or damaged hair. and scrub the shampoo really good. too much conditioner will make ur hair dry so thats why i say use "for dry or damaged hair" it works and you'll be so much happier! good luck!

Are you more stressed than you were before, sometimes itchy scalps are caused by stress, or have you changed your shampoo and conditioner and not rinsing it properly as it is longer.
