Composition - look at how the picture is framed. can you immediately identify the main subject? are there elements that are distracting or has the subject been framed harmoniously within its environment? does the photo need improvement? if yes, how would you reshoot it? would you have gone in for a closer shot or pulled back to get more of the background?

Color/Contrast-is this a b&w image or color? If it's b&w, observe the tones. are the whites white and the blacks black? is it highly contrasted or can you see shades of grey? if it's color, do the colors pop or does the photo look dull? should the photographer have used an additional flash or fill to bring light to certain areas of the image?

Subject Matter-describe what you think is going on in the photo. what do you think the photographer is trying to convey through the image? is the subject matter believable? are you moved by it? bored? excited? curious? etc? how would you describe the photo-photojournalism, fine art, portrait, landscape, nature, etc?

Our interpretation of images is largely based upon our perception of reality. Since no one really sees the whole picture, and especially not all at once, you'll want to look at this picture at different intervals, if time permits. For example, hang the photo on a wall that you will pass often over several hours. each time you walk by, see if you notice something new about the image-something you didn't see before, something new about the way you feel when looking at it. does the image conjure up any memories, sounds, tastes, etc? how have your feelings about the photo changed since you first selected it?

Good Luck

Start by describing what is in the picture: i.e. The picture is approximately 8 x 10, author known or unknown, and in it is a horse, carriage, the driver, passengers, and they seem to be taking a leisure ride in the country side. The horse is handsome with a shinning brown and black coat, he carries his head high and proud. Then describe everything else in the picture including the colors. Describe the dirt road and the weeping willows lining the road, etc. If you have an opinion as to who they are, or where they seem to be going tell that story. Does the picture make you feel in any particular way? Can you relate it to an experience you have had. If so, discuss that. Good luck.

you need to be clear about:
1.Subject and history of that particular subject.
2.Composition.
3. Main features = what makes that photo to be so different.
It is nice to show:
4.What is behind that photo = kind of "the story behind the photo".
5.Author.
6.History.
