Does anyone know where I can find construction information on ground penetrating radar? I have seen on the web and on Discovery where some schools have built their own. I can build anything. I just need to know how.

Geonics is a leading manufacturer of GPR. It is a "voodoo science" that sometimes is not prone to work in stiff soils, in areas of concrete, or below the water table.

The GPR is still highly guarded and the best way to design one would be to reverse engineer one.

Good luck, because my experience with GPR surveys has been somewhat limited.

I didn't find anything on DIY GPR, but to build one from scratch is many smaller projects, and I found lots of info on the separate projects.

The schools I read about were engineering schools, and they designed it based on what they could get their hands on for free or cheap. They didn't seem to be "building" Ghz RF transmitters, receivers and antennae, etc. they seemed to borrow or beg for most of that and then put it all together.

Then once they collected their data they were doing a lot of the processing with Matlab toolboxes (not cheep)

I don't mean to discourage you at all, it is 100% doable to build your own transmitter, receiver, antennae and software, ect. but I really don't think you are going to find a blue print already made for you, you're going to have to design it.

I believe the hardware is not a problem, you just need a variable frequency microwave transmitter and antenna. The analysis of the signals to get something useful is where it goes into the PHD arena.

Try an online patent search.
