The parents are having a fit over the school starting a new policy on all students having to wear uniforms. The keep harping on education. Here is my thought on it. I was in the service for years. I was proud to wear my uniform. I see young people come in daily and apply for jobs wearing jeans with rips and holes along with flip flops. The go to school with price tags on their clothes and shoes. Is it a fashion show or are you there to learn? Once they can't be different from each other they will have to focus on their education. What are your thoughts?

I think it's a good idea. I remember feeling bad about myself when I was a kid because I didn't have the nice clothes that some of the other girls had. Being a kid is hard enough without having stupid things like that to worry you (even if it is really superficial). Aside from the self esteem it could promote, it would sure make things easier at home too- getting ready in the morning for instance- and shopping for school clothes would be much simpler.

School Uniforms do solve some problems such as "distractions" that might otherwise exist. It also solves the problem of kids being to busy trying to find new clothes to wear and show off to their friends and thus saves them time and money.

However, uniformity ristricts imagination and also hinders creativity. Kids are unable to freely express themselves in society as a whole due to ristrictions placed upon them by the government. What they choose to wear is something that they should have the option or the choice of doing rather than being forced into wearing particular clothing.

So basically I can see both sides of this argument. I still lean towards freedom of choice..but placing some more ristrictions on those freedoms. That should be left to the school boards to decide.
