It's a terrorist attack waiting to happen. If you chose to go through with it, good luck and safe travels. If not, I can't blame you. Cheers!

You don't drive via Rafah as the person above says. This would be much further and would involve crossing into Gaza and out again which the Israelis probably wouldn't allow you to do (the status of this border crossing is changing all the time). From Eilat you cross into Egypt at Taba, just 10km away. From there you follow road signs (written in English as well as Arabic) to Cairo.

There is only one important junction after Taba where you could make a mistake; one road goes left (south) along the Sinai coast to Nuweiba, Dahab and Sharm-el-Sheikh; the other goes right (west) to Cairo.

You should make sure you have plenty of fuel as there are very few filling stations in this desert. And carry plenty of water and some food in case of breakdown.

When you get quite close to Cairo you will go through a tunnel under the Suez Canal and pass from Asia into Africa.

Have fun and good luck!
