could be pink eye/conjunctivitis - check those on yahoo.com (search for them)

Wet a rag with warm, okay, HOT, water - press this against/over your right eye - slowly - ease away any puss etc and keep it clean - do not use the rag on the other eye and be sure to wash your hands immediately when done - do not touch lips, ears, face, etc til hands washed

or um, maybe you just want to be a pirate? ...

Bell's palsy could be the answer. Generally, though, this affects more than just the eye. The whole side of your face would kind of look droopy. this is a paralysis of a facial nerve. The question is whether it is stuck shut or you physically cannot open it. Seek attention from an MD if you cannot open it physically.

...WHAT? That sounds crazy. I don't think you should be listening to anyone on here. You should seek emergency help from the hospital.

Try a warm washcloth first, washing the eye. The eye will naturally create a substance, that can "glue" your eyelid shut. Try cleaning it first.

Now, I'm going on the fact that you didn't mention if you were in a fight while you were sleeping. If it's swollen and sore, you may need to follow the first bit of advice first. Good Luck!

Yeah, probably conjunctivitis (pinkeye), but you didn't mention whether it feels "glued shut" or that you can't get your eye muscles to work to open the eye. Have you checked the rest of your face? Any slacking on one side--like, say, your mouth looks a little droopy on one side? If so, get to the ER immediately, as you may have had a small stroke. But yeah, probably just pinkeye. It's contagious, btw, so don't go touching your eye a lot.

you may have a slight infection (perhaps pink eye) or just some cold escaping from the mucous membranes. Rinse it with tepid water and gently clean the eyelashes.

Change the expression of your Avatar and your eye will open. Personally, I like mine with one eye shut.
