I got a puppy myself just a few months ago. The trick to potty training is to use those "puppy pads" that you can lay on the floor for them to do their business. Always keep it in the same place, once they get the hang of that they will pick up on having you take them outside. Also, if you have a problem with your puppy and unwanted barking (neighbors don't tend to appreciate that) then you should get a bark collar. The one I use is from Guardian and it has done wonders for my dog. After he has experienced what the collar will do when he barks, you can trick him and take the batteries out. He doesn't know the difference, so he stays quiet. If you flip through the channels and you get a show called the Dog Whisperer, be sure to watch. This man is a GENIUS !

Crate training. In general, you put the puppy in the crate for short periods of time and offer a crate. After you take the pup out, you take it outside to go potty. When it does, you praise it. You gradually increase the time in the crate. Dogs see crates as a sort of a den where they sleep and will not go to the bathroom in the crate because this where they sleep unless they are left in there so long that they can no longer wait.
If you are not using a crate, you must take the puppy outside often and praise it whenever it goes to the bathroom. If you see it going in the house, say '"no," and take the dog outside right away. If it goes outside, again, praise it.
I'm not a huge fan of puppy pads or paper training. I was given a puppy that was confined to one room of the house so that he would only go on papers there. When I brought him home, he was potty trained in a day. He wanted to go outside, but at his previous home, he was just expected to go on the papers.

Having a dog is just like having a 1 year old kid at home. First of all carry out toilet training. Decide the place to pee and poo then bring them to the area the moment they start peeing. correct them when they are wrong. Praise them when they are obedient. Patient is they key word. Please make sure that member of the house love the dog too.
